OLİVER TWİST ( Charles Dickens ) Kitap Ozeti
Oliver Twist was born in a workhouse.This first minutes were extremely hard and it was doubtful whether he could survive.This mother took him in her arms,kissed him and died.No one knew where she was coming from but she was good looking.
As he was an orphan,the workhouse was not suitable for him.He was then brought to a special "baby farm" nearby directed by a woman who knew what was good for her.So she kept for her own use the money that was given for the orphans.
On Oliver's ninth birthday,the beadle,Mr Bumble came to the farm to take Oliver back to the workhouse.There,he was brought to the board.The board members treated Oliver of fool and sent him immediately to the other boys' unit.The food given to them was not sufficient so they selected Oliver to tell the
master to give them more.Oliver was punished,locked up and a neward was offered to anybody who would take him away and use him for work.
Oliver started working by the undertaker,Mr Sowberry.Mrs Sowberry didn't like the idea to have one more mouth to feed.By the undertaker shop,Noah Claypole and Charlotte were also working.Noah decided that Oliver punished for every insult he had ever received and that his life should be turned into misery.
Noah,Charlotte and Mrs Sowberry acted so terribly against Oliver that Mr Sowberry decided to be on their sides and he beat Oliver.
Oliver decided then to escape to London and walked and walked.Then he sat down at the side of the road.A boy gave him help,offered him food and shelter.This new friend brought him to a house where an adult called Fagin and 5 or 6 other boys were sitting round the table.
Fagin was hiding a boy containing jewellery.They all were thieves but Oliver could not understand it immediately.They all were taught by Fagin how to steal from people's pockets;but Oliver saw that all as a game and one day,when he was out with two of the boys,he saw it all.One of the thieves put his hand in an old gentleman's pocket and took out a handkerchief.The old man realizing that his handkerchief was missing,turned round and saw Oliver running away.
Thinking he was the thief,he started shouting : " Stop thief" and Oliver got caught,brought to the nearest police station.There he was found guilty by the magistrate.Just when he was taken to the prison,a man came in.He was the bookshop owner in front of which the gentleman was standing and he saw it all.He saw the two little thieves and knew that Oliver was innocent.The old gentleman pitied Oliver and took him home.He and his old housekeeper started taking care of him.They both liked him and Oliver liked them.It was the first time in his life that he was treated so good and felt so happy.Mr Brownlow and Mrs Bedwin were also happy with that little innocent creative.
However,one day Oliver was kidnapped and brought back to Fagin's where miserable days awaited him.
A robbery has been planned Oliver was lifted through a small windows into a house where he got shot.While all that was happening,
Fagin and a certain Monks were discussing about Oliver .But someone listened to them.
Oliver ,on his side,who was dropped by the other thieves,lay in the field the whole night.He opened his eyes,saw a house nearby and knocked at the door.He was taken in.The police and the doctor were immediately called and Oliver put the bed.The doctor and Rose decided that Oliver was a good boy and should be saved from prison and convinced everyone that Oliver was not the thief who has been shot the night before.
Oliver recovered in a few weeks but the friendship between him,Rose,the Dr. Losberne and Mrs.Maylie grew every day more.However Rose got ill this time and Mrs. Maylie's son came to visit her.He was in love with her and wanted to marry her.But Rose's past was uncle an so she refused to marry him as he wished to enter politics.
On the other side,the housekeeper of the babyfarm who discovered that
Oliver's mother had a golden locket told it to the beadle,Mr Bumble. That same Mr.Bumble met one day with a stranger who asked him questions about Oliver
Twist ,his mother and the golden locket which contained a golden wedding ring and on which was written "Agnes" Mr. Bumble and the housekeeper from the babyfarm who how was Mrs.Bumble went together to that was stranger,Monks,
to show him the golden locket and get money in return.They got the money but what they saw surprised them.Monks opened a small door in the floor.Down below rushed the river and river and Monks dropped the locket into the water.
In Fagin's gang,there was a girl who pitied Oliver and herself;she was Nancy.After the story with Mr.Bumble,Monks went to Fagin.While they two were discussing, Nancy heard it all and decided that she should go and tell it Rose.She put her robber-lover to bed and went to Mrs.Maylie's house.
There she told the story that Monks was Oliver's brother and he wanted to harm Oliver all his life but not kill him as suspicion would point directly to himself but that he had dropped the only proof about Oliver's identify into the river and that Oliver would not profit of his money.
After having said all this,she added that she'd be on London Bridge every Sunday night between eleven and twelve and left.The next day Rose and Oliver
Visited Mr.Brownlow whom they finally found. Their common joy was worth to be seen.Rose expressed her desire to speakwith Mr Brownlow alone and told him Nancy's story.
They agreed that both Mrs Maylie and Dr.Losberne should be told and that they would meet with Nancy on London Bridge.
There was a certain Noah Claypole at the undertaker's shop.Well,he and Charlotte after having taken all the shop's money were on their way to London.There,they met Fagin who offered Noah to work him.As Fagin suspected Nancy,he asked Noah to spy on her.When Nancy and Rose and Mr Brownlow met on the bridge,Noah was there too.Nancy asked no harm to be done to Fagin,to his gang and to her lover and told the whole story to Mr Brownlow.She also told where they could find Monks and all the others.Noah rushed back to Fagin who made his way to Nancy's lover.Nancy's lover decided to kill Nancy and did so.He then started escaping.
On the other hand,Mr Brownlow asked for Monks' kidnapping.With him,he had a long talk and we learn that Monks' father was Mr. Brownlow's best friend and that Monks' parents separated.
Later,that latter met a family with two daughters.He fell in love with and became engaged to the older.At this point, one of his relatives died and left him a lot of money in his will. Monks' father went to take that money and died on his way.But beforehand he visited Mr.Brownlow and told him that his future wife was pregnant and that he'd want her also to inherit.Monks' father had also given Mr Brownlow a picture of his future wife who looked so similar to Oliver.Mr Brownlow told also Monks that he knew him having dropped the golden ring into the river.As a murder has been done,Monks could also be held guilty.Mr Brownlow offered Monks to sign a paper where he admits that Oliver's his brother and that he also inherits from their common father's will and that he can then be free to go whenever he pleases.
As the adresses were given to the police,attacks were organized.All the gang were arrested,but Nancy's murderer hang himself by accident.
Mr Brownlow,Dr Losberne,Mrs Maylie,Rose and Oliver travelled back to Oliver's birth place.There,they met with Monks who told them Oliver's and his father's story.He also told that Rose was Oliver's mother's sister.So there were no more clouds on Rose's past and she accepted to Marry Mrs Maylie's son.
Like in all stories,the good deserves a good future and the bad a bad end.Oliver,after all the missery he lived,receives happiness and a family.Rose,after a dark past,obtains a bright and happy future and a crowded family.Nancy,who was after all a good girl,deserved maybe a better future but she decided differently and constructed her own future by going back to her lower who killed himself by accident.Altogether a sad story with a good and happy end.
